New Articles

New Sally's Place Columnist:

Lorna Sass, a 2007 James Beard Foundation Award Winner for her book WHOLE GRAINS EVERY DAY, EVERY WAY, brings us a new column Going with the Grain. Her first article, "Black Rice," includes recipes for Black Rice with Mussels and Shrimp in Tomato Broth and Coconut-Ginger Thai Black Rice Pudding.

Restaurant Reviews:

"Boston, Massachusetts" by Rita Connelly takes us from the North End to the South End with the Financial District, Beacon Hill, the Commons, and the Theatre District in between. Also, the city of Cambridge and our nation's longest continually operating restaurant, the Union Oyster House, are included.

This is a two for one: "Kansas City, Missouri, & Kansas City, Kansas" restaurants are reviewed by Mary Bloch, who says this Midwestern locale offers much more than barns and barbecue.

"St. Louis, Missouri" by Catherine Neville. Originally settled by the French and then further populated by German and Italian immigrants, the culinary diversity that can be found in St. Louis' neighborhoods is broad and flavorful. Think toasted ravioli, St. Louis style pizza, gooey butter cake, the St. Paul sandwich, which is egg foo young piled on white bread and topped with shredded lettuce and mayo, and barbecue wet with a thick, sweet sauce.

Wine Articles: It's Time for Wine columnists Sara & Monty Preiser say:

"Wines, Wines Everywhere" showcase six Napa, California wineries.

Share Luna Vineyards' huge and wonderful reds from Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah grapes. Enjoy the special tasting that everyone visiting the Napa Valley should consider. It revolves around their wines, and also includes some fine cheeses, beautiful chocolates, and a pairing education.

Traveling with Kids Article:

"Special Events: The Hoover Dam Tour, Boulder City, Nevada" by Elaine Sosa Labalme. Mom Elaine and son Steven visit the Hoover Dam, which receives over a million visitors a year.
