by Dorothy Huang

 (Serves 4 to 6)

1 pound firm tofu
2 tablespoons cooking oil
Sesame dressing:
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon freshly ground pepper
½ teaspoon minced ginger
1 tablespoon sugar
3 tablespoons sesame paste
3 tablespoons soy sauce
¼ cup rice vinegar

3 cups shredded lettuce
2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds

Garnish: a few pieces of red pepper shreds and green onion shreds

  1. Rinse and drain tofu.  Pat dry with paper towels.  Cut it into 1 x 3-inch slices, ¼-inch thick.

  2. In a large non-stick skillet, add 2 tablespoons oil.  Pan-fry tofu slices over medium-high heat until slightly brown on both sides.

  3. In a mixing bowl, combine sesame dressing ingredients.  Whisk until smooth.

  4. Spread lettuce shreds evenly on a serving plate.  Place tofu slices on top.  Spoon sesame dressing over.  Sprinkle sesame seeds on tofu slices.  Garnish with red pepper shreds and green onion shreds.
