Dottie's is a small homey coffee shop that serves a really good breakfast. They bake their own bread, muffins, and scones, the eggs and homefries are well prepared and the pancakes would be perfect if they only had real maple syrup. The coffee is hot and strong, the orange juice fresh, and there's espresso for those who have to have their morning latte. And (good news for early morning people) Dottie's starts serving at 7:30 a.m. even on Sundays.
The atmosphere at Dottie's is warm and friendly, with blue coffee cups painted on the walls and blue checked cloths on the tables. Dottie's is close enough to Union Square to do a good tourist business, and there's a cabinet in the corner with postcards from around the world extolling the virtues of breakfast at Dottie's. Dottie's is popular with locals, too, so there may be a wait for a table at peak times.
