Pan-Fried Tofu with Sesame Dressing
(Serves 4 to 6)
1 pound firm tofu
  2 tablespoons cooking oil
  Sesame dressing:
  ¼  teaspoon salt
  ¼  teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  ½  teaspoon minced ginger
  1  tablespoon sugar
  3  tablespoons sesame paste
  3 tablespoons soy sauce
  ¼  cup rice vinegar
  
  3 cups shredded lettuce
  2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
  
  Garnish: a few pieces of red pepper shreds and green  onion shreds
- Rinse and drain tofu.  Pat dry with paper towels.  Cut it into 1 x 3-inch slices, ¼-inch thick.
 
 
- In a large  non-stick skillet, add 2 tablespoons oil.   Pan-fry tofu slices over medium-high heat until slightly brown on both  sides.  
 
 
- In a mixing bowl,  combine sesame dressing ingredients.   Whisk until smooth.
 
 
- Spread lettuce shreds evenly on a serving plate. Place tofu slices on top. Spoon sesame dressing over. Sprinkle sesame seeds on tofu slices. Garnish with red pepper shreds and green onion shreds.
