Beverly Hills, City of Wealth and Wellth

by Andrea Rademan

The world knows Beverly Hills as a city of wealth but this summer a new, city-sponsored initiative has transformed the enclave into a City of WELLTH.

“Wellness is glamorous!” declares WELLTHNESS campaign ambassador, supermodel Christie Brinkley, who credits her long career to a healthy, holistic lifestyle. The multi-faceted entrepeneur is also the author of Timeless Beauty and has launched The Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare line, the Hair2Wear Christie Brinkley Collection, a line of wigs, and Organic Prosecco, called Bellissima, from Italy.

As for “wellthness,” that term was coined by Jason Wachob, founder and CEO of mindbodygreen, with over 10 million monthly unique visitors. He traded Wall Street’s physical and mental demands, along with financial wealth, for a new life currency, described in his book, Wellth: How I Learned to Build a Life, Not a Résume.

Experts in the pillars of WELLTH who joined Jason at Alo Yoga to discuss their areas of expertise included: Caley Alyssa (MOVE); Dana Claudat (RESTORE); James Duigan (GRATITUDE); Charlie Knowles (EXPLORE); and Matthew Kenney (EAT).

Alyssa (MOVE), an internationally recognized yoga teacher with over 100.000 followers, hosted the introductory event at Alo, her flagship yoga studio and rooftop deck (370 N Canon Dr, Beverly Hills, (310) 295-1860), where she discussed how fitness should be an integral part of life. On the ground floor she sells carefully curated lines of fitness wear.

Dana Claudat (RESTORE) is a Stanford-educated art historian who has worked with A-List creators and global entrepreneurs who seek creativity, clarity, love and empowerment in their homes and lives. She encourages restful sleep using Feng Shui.

James Duigan (GRATITUDE), the founder of Bodyism, a UK company that offers personal training and wellness solutions, is noted for his Clean and Lean philosophy. He refers to his work as ‘the business of kindness.’

Charlie Knoles (EXPLORE) began practicing Vedic meditation at age four. As a meditation teacher, he developed a new curriculum in the Himalayan Mountains of India. Currently based in Bali, Knoles frequently visits the U.S. teaching everyone from celebrities and CEOs to monks and stay-at-home dads.
