Simplify Thanksgiving This Year

Simplify Thanksgiving this year.  If you are having family and friends to your house, make this year a potluck meal. You can make the turkey and assign other dishes to your guests. Or better yet, dine at a restaurant this year or have your event catered.

If you do entertain at home, be sure to do as much in advance as possible. Plan your guest list and menu in advance. Buy pre-cut vegetables to make your soups, salads and pies easier to make.  Think pumpkin, squash, lettuce and onions . . . just to name a few. Consider buying some of your dinner pre-made.  Upscale grocery stores and restaurants are in the holiday food business so think salads, stuffing and pies.  All of this will save you time in your kitchen.

Get the kids involved by having them decorate the table or making name cards.  Depending on their age, kids can help with the cooking and the clean-up.

I hope these simple tips help make your Thanksgiving less stressful and more relaxing this year.  After all, you need to save energy for shopping!

On Nov. 28, 2013, for the first and only time in any of our lifetimes, the first day of Hanukkah falls on the same day as Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving + Hanukkah = Thanksgivukkah. Thanksgivukkah even has its own Facebook page

Also, read my " Endive & Feta Appetizer Recipe", "Halloween Spider Cookies", and my "Hummus Lovers, Meet Tuna Mousse" posts on womensforum.com on Sally's Food for Thought blog.

Be sure to check out the coupon at the end of this eNewsletter from Primula, a family-owned business that sells flowering teas, coffeeware, teaware and gift sets.  All the best in food, wine, and travel.
