Last Minute Summer Travel
|
August, the last month of the summer, is time to hit the road or buy a cheap ticket to a fun place to make the most of summer before it is gone.
The following articles were written by our contributing writer Elaine Labalme, who writes the " Traveling with Kids" series for Sally's Place. We have watched her son Steven grow from a two-year-old toddler to a tween of 11. They have traveled all over the U.S., Canada, and Mexico and the following articles are just a few of the 65 postings:
For last minute hotel rooms at super rates check out the Hotel Tonight app, available for the iPhone and iPad. Hotels give them last minute deals on unsold rooms, with discounts up to 70%. You book the deals easily and securely on your smartphone, available in 12 countries with 100+ destinations.Another innovative travel idea for kids is spending the night at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. called Smithsonian Sleepovers. A night of adventure awaits you as you enter the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History, just as the doors are closing, the lights dim, and the crowds shuffle out. Many other museums and parks in the U.S. offer sleepovers including those in Chicago; Portland, Oregon; Mystic, Connecticut; San Diego; and Seattle. And how about a house swap? Guidebook writer and TV personality Rick Steves suggests good places to start are HomeLink, HomeExchange, or Intervac Home Exchange. Many families enjoy this great budget option as they trade houses and even cars. Or you can become a tourist in your own hometown. There are sure to be places you've wanted to experience but have not done so.
Be sure to check out the coupon from Gourmet Mike's at the very end of this eNewsletter as their products are perfect for your summer meals. All the best in food, wine, and travel.
