Fun in the Sun

dianas-4thJulyCupcakes Summer is in full swing now. Make the most of it by kicking off the month with a fun July 4th.  Enjoy the fireworks, have a picnic, attend an outdoor concert or stay home and enjoy some homemade ice cream. Sally's Place is here to help you make the most of summertime whether you need recipes for a tasty BBQ, want to make fresh lemonade to take to the beach, or you are still trying to find the perfect locale for your summer vacation

Shying away from too much sunshine? Relaxing summers can be a perfect time to try new recipes. Some of my personal summer favorites are in the column to the left. And relax and relish the season's bounty.   Keep it simple. Fresh fruit and just-harvested veggies. Cool drinks and cold soups to complement sizzling meats off the grill. And, of course, something sweet for the sweet days of summer.

Also, read my "Grilled Steaks for Father's Day" blog where I explain the cuts and grades of beef, and my "Strawberries in Champagne" posts on womensforum.com on Sally's Food for Thought blog.

Be sure to check out the coupon from Dave's Gourmet at the very end of this eNewsletter as their products are perfect for your summer plans.  All the best in food, wine, and travel.

Happy July,

I Scream Sandwich
Inspired Recipes for the Ultimate Frozen Treat

by Jennie Schacht

i-scream-sandwich Cookbook author Jennie Schacht redefines this hugely popular sweet treat and shows us how it can easily be the star of a dinner party, child's birthday bash, family picnic, or just a lazy summer afternoon. The book includes a variety of ice cream sandwich recipes, from the classic (chocolate cookie bars with vanilla ice cream), to the exotic (kaffir lime and lemongrass sorbet on five-spice cookies), to the seasonal (blackberry-buttermilk ice cream on crispy meringues), to the upscale (pistachio gelato on a brioche bun).  Remember, July is National Ice Cream Month. Kuhn Rikon Corn Twister

corn-twister The Kuhn Rikon Corn Twister is an ingenious new way to remove corn from the cob. Place the green silicone husk on one end of the ear, and the corn-shaped piece on the other. With a smooth and simple twist and push, it strips kernels cleanly off the cob. The three pieces nest inside each other for safe, compact storage. To order, click here.

clean-bbq Clean BBQ disposable grill liners allow you a fresh surface every time you grill.  The photo on the left uses the liner. No more residue from the last BBQ on today's food, and no messy clean-up!  The liners fit all standard grill grates. The bitter taste that comes when old food residue clings to new food is eliminated.  It's perfect for keeping foods separated for those with food allergies or vegetarians who don't want the taste of previously cooked meat on their meal. The patented Clean BBQ is made from the same heavy duty foil used for making disposable cooking pans. To order, click here.
