Now that the 2010 holidays are behind us and hopefully you have gotten some much needed rest, it is time to move ahead to the Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day, both of which take place in the month of February. The Chinese New Year, or the Year of the Rabbit, begins on February 3rd, and starts with the New Moon on the first day of the new year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The Chinese New Year is perhaps the most elaborate, important, and exciting holiday in the Chinese calendar. Chinese people all over the world start the celebration on New Year's Eve. It is time for family gathering and feasting. We offer great menu suggestions from Dorothy Huang, cooking instructor & cookbook author of Chinese Cuisine Made Simple, available at amazon.com. They are sure to bring good fortune, prosperity, and longevity to you all.
And let's start thinking about buying that special someone a Valentine gift, making some dreamy goodies or booking a romantic trip for two.
All the best in food, wine, and travel.
Happy February! Sally Bernstein Editor-in-Chief sallybernstein.com sally@sallybernstein.com Photo Credit: Diana's Desserts

Valentine Flowers Delivered to the Restaurant Dining out this Valentine's Day? The ultimate romantic gesture is having flowers delivered to the restaurant. FlowerPetal.com specializes in this restaurant service. Brix Chocolate for Wine Brix offers Milk, Dark, and Extra Dark chocolate to pair with wines. Dr. Nick Proia, an Ohio pulmonologist, developed Brix when it became obvious to him that no chocolate on the market paired well with wine. After a good deal of trial and error, Dr. Proia crafted the three blends of what would later be called Brix - the first chocolate specifically blended to compliment wine. At their root is single origin Ghanaian chocolate, known for its red fruit tones, mixed with the highest quality confectionary chocolate. The result is a blend so pure in flavor that it actually enhances those nuances found in great wines, without confusing the palate. Brix is available at retailers, wineries and online. $38.85 for a package of three. One great stop on any vacation is a visit to a local cooking school. San Francisco culinary schools
