Katsu Matsuda opened Sushi on North Beach in the space that was, for many years, Brasserie Tomo. His traditional sushi creations include the crunchy, fresh-tasting mirugai (giant clam), velvety uni (sea urchin roe) and buttery toro (delicious fatty tuna - done here in a maki sushi roll complemented by wisps of green onion). Matsuda's restful restaurant centers on his personal attention at the sushi bar and the dreamy, Enya-like background music. Matsuda also serves up to 40 premium sakes. The balance of the menu includes teriyaki, tempura and a curry plate.
