Alice Water's husband Stephen and a couple of partners have opened a tapas bar, right next door to Chez Panisse, which Water's helped found more than 25 years ago and known as the fountainhead of contemporary cuisine. At Bar Cesar look for all manner of tapas: addictive skinny onion rings, all sorts of olives, anchovies, sausages and cheese. There are many, many wines by the glass, so patrons can taste the food with a couple of wine choices. The decor is simple with windows open to the street. Finally Berkeley has an adult bar with very good food.
